Why Do a Pre-Show Mailing? Pre-show promotion of your presence is an important tactic for attracting prospects to your booth - especially at an event as large as Coverings.
Exhibit marketing experts routinely cite five marketing tactics that all exhibitors should employ:
- Advertising in the show directory
- Inviting customers and prospects to attend (i.e. Coverings' VIC program)
- Purchasing a high-visibility or targeted sponsorship
- Delivering a pre-show mailing targeted to registered attendees
- Utilizing "See Us At" logos in print advertising and on your company web site
What Should You Mail? In planning a mailing, you want to target a message that compels prospects to add you to their "must-see exhibit" list. This is best accomplished through creating an offer of a show special, discount, contest or other offer available only at the show. Or, you may highlight new products or programs you'll be introducing at the show.
Generally a postcard will do, although personalized letters or small brochures also work well if you have a lot of new things to say. Whatever you do say, it should always be about them and not about you. Stress the benefits attendees will get by visiting you.
"Branding" mailings (those without a specific offer) are more often than not a waste of your money and attendees' time. If you're looking to remind attendees of your brand, it's more effective to do so with an ad in the Show Directory.
When Should You Mail? You should plan to send your mailing so that it arrives between one and three weeks prior to the event. Any earlier and you may be forgotten by the time the show comes. Any later and you risk being too late.
Who Should Receive Your Mailing? Ideally you would want to target your mailing to those attendees whose profiles are closest to your existing customers. However, most shows do not give you the opportunity to make selections from their pre-registration list. We do. You can select up to 2,500 pre-registered attendees from three categories of buyers: Dealer/Distributors, Specifiers, or Installer/Contractors. Or you can choose to receive a random selection of up to 5,000 pre-registered attendees. Please note, in order to maintain the integrity of our attendee database and to discourage list usage abuse, we allow only one mailing list per exhibitor.
