Casa Mancusi

At Coverings 2022, we honored 10 outstanding projects that demonstrated spectacular craftsmanship and creativity in the use of tile & stone. This week we’re putting the spotlight on the 2022 CID Award winners for Residential Tile Design – Whole Project and Residential Tile Design – Bathroom.

Residential Tile Design – Whole Project Winner
Casa Mancusi
Mancusi Design, LLC
Cave Creek, AZ

Casa Mancusi

Mancusi Design used tile not simply as flooring material, but as surface or plain that continuously moves throughout the residence. All flooring areas utilize the same porcelain tile throughout the residence and continues into the exterior patio area.

Casa Mancusi

Allowing the floor to mimic the roof as it extends the interior space into the exterior space – expanding the visual sense of the buildings size and blurring the experience of indoor and outdoor living as the main architectural concept behind this home. A building that works with the site and responds to the unique environment of the Sonoran Desert.

Residential Tile Design – Bathroom Winner
Retreat from Reality
Tbektu Design + Development, LLC
Columbia, TN

Retreat from Reality

The renovation of the 27-year-old master bathroom of a registered interior designer in Tennessee provided the impetus to manifest for herself what all her clients have wanted since the beginning of the pandemic: respite from the new world we now experience, in the place that now matters more than ever…home.

Retreat from Reality

A vivid recollection of a fabulous Atlas Plan porcelain slab seen at Coverings 2019 made other material choices easier. The porcelain slabs and porcelain tile provide the perfect surfaces for easy maintenance, as they require no special products for cleaning and large slabs which equal very few grout joints. Schluter cove trims, movement joint inside corners and edge profiles protect and provide ease of cleaning and a neat appearance. Having an exceptional installer was key to manifesting the vision.

Retreat from Reality - Shower

The accessible shower ensures ease of use for many years to come. Heated floors, shower floor and shower bench, as well as a body dryer, offer any user a luxury experience. Lighting for face, sink and ambient purposes, as well as etched glass doors throughout the space provide an illuminating experience. Views of landscaped spaces and direct access to an outdoor shower and sauna enhance the bathers’ experience.
