At Coverings 2026, we honored 25 outstanding projects that demonstrated spectacular craftsmanship and creativity in the use of tile and stone. This week we’re spotlighting the 2026 CID Awards: Commercial and Residential Tile, Stone and Glass Design Special Recognitions.
Special Recognition: Commercial Ceramic Tile Design
Project: Heritage Valley Mosaic
Designer: Koupe Design Studio
Location: Edmonton, Canada
Heritage Valley Mosaic is our winner for Special Recognition: Commercial Ceramic Tile Design. Marking a franchise’s 20th anniversary, this flagship rebrand sets the template for modernization across all future locations. Designed around comfort, accessibility, and durability, tile and stone were deployed strategically throughout — guiding customers from entry to order counter through a deliberate play of texture, color, and pattern. Flat field and textured tiles create intuitive wayfinding, while a multi-manufacturer order counter mosaic anchors the color palette. Concrete wall cladding provides a canvas for custom artwork, and signature penny round toe-kick tiles glow with added lighting for ambiance. Existing flooring was retained to minimize waste. Completed in under four months, this project was built to last for years.
Special Recognition: Residential Stone Design
Project: European Colonial Haven
Designer: Old World Stone Imports Flooring and Design
Location: Mapleton, Utah, USA
Our winner for Special Recognition: Residential Stone Design is European Colonial Haven by Old World Stone Imports Flooring & Design. European Colonial Haven is a masterclass in natural stone craftsmanship. A grand entry mosaic of Arista White and Blue Bardiglio marble sets the tone. Hand-carved Nero Marquina and Baja Sand limestone fireplaces command the office and great room with sculptural presence. Taj Mahal quartzite countertops, custom screen-printed marble backsplashes, and double-mitered edges define a kitchen where artistry meets function. The primary bath features intricate waterjet mosaics, a triple-layer marble mirror frame, and custom Featherstone water-cut tilework. Every transition, pattern, and edge was digitally mapped and dry-fit before installation. The result: a home where natural stone doesn’t just finish spaces — it defines them.
Special Recognition: Residential Ceramic Tile Design: Penthouse
Project: Brickell Penthouse
Designer: EOLO A & I DESIGN
Location: Miami, Florida, USA
Next, we have Brickell Penthouse as the winner for Special Recognition: Residential Ceramic Tile Design. This dated duplex was reimagined as a gallery-like sanctuary for art collectors with ceramic and porcelain tile as the primary architectural instruments.
Large-format 24″×48″ porcelain in warm Arcata Stone dissolves interior-exterior boundaries, creating a seamless ground plane from living room to coastal balcony. Upstairs, 8″×48″ wood-look ceramic planks bring warmth and linearity to the private suites. Each bathroom is a curated composition with sculpted split-face walls, dimensional accents, and Mystic Champagne onyx transforming the primary suite into a glowing jewel box. The staircase, wrapped in perforated ceramic with integrated lighting, becomes a luminous lantern anchoring the home’s sculptural heart.
Special Recognition: Glass Tile Pool Design
Project: The Legend of Driftwood Hollow
Designer: GB IV Designs
Location: Driftwood, Texas, USA
And now, a glass pool design in Texas. The Legend of Driftwood Hollow features than 120 tons of natural stone, hand-selected and placed to create this immersive Texas Hill Country grotto — a multi-level aquatic landscape that reads as a single, organic formation. A reverse infinity-edge spillway feeds a concealed stone vault, secondary basin, and kiddie pool below, while a perimeter-overflow spa delivers a rare simultaneous hot-and-cold experience above. Over 40 tons of boulder descend fully submerged to the pool floor, eliminating any visual break between land and water. Glow-in-the-dark glass tile lines a concealed mine-shaft slide throughout. Epoxy adhesion systems, 80mm waterproofing membranes, and crane-assisted placement ensured structural integrity at every depth. This is geology, reimagined.
