2025 CID Award Winner Spotlight: Artistic Design

Watsonville Brillante 4

At Coverings 2025, we honored 22 outstanding projects that demonstrated spectacular craftsmanship and creativity in the use of tile and stone. This week we’re spotlighting the 2025 CID Award winner for Artistic Design.

Project: Watsonville Brillante

Designer: Community Arts & Empowerment with support from LATICRETE

Location: Watsonville, California, USA

The 2025 Coverings winner for Artistic Design goes to Watsonville Brillante by Community Arts & Empowerment with support from LATICRETE.

This project transforms a six-story parking garage into a monumental public landmark that celebrates the city’s rich cultural heritage. Led by artist Kathleen Crocetti, the project features 185 mosaic panels and four large-scale murals, brought to life by 125 artists and representing 90 cultural groups.

A symbol of resilience, diversity, and artistic excellence, the installation was brought to life in collaboration with Rinaldi Tile & Marble.  The team used LATICRETE products such as HYDRO BAN® for waterproofing and 253 GOLD™ adhesive for durability. Among its most iconic elements are the 2,400-square-foot “Hermanita” mural and “The Strawberry Picker,” a powerful tribute to the region’s agricultural workers. Completed in the face of numerous challenges, Watsonville Brillante stands as a bold and enduring celebration of community and culture.
